Oh yellow gold, how I love thee...

If you've been reading this blog, you probably already know that I have a deep and abiding love for 18kt yellow gold. I love it. I. LOVE. IT. But judging by the little poll that I'm conducting (over there on the sidebar), I'm one of the few people that do. Why does everyone love white metal so much? Please explain. :-)

I don't know why the color of yellow gold is so appealing (to me anyway)....I do like bright colors and high contrast. Plus, yellow gold is so festive! (..according to my future MIL, and I couldn't agree more. It is festive!).

White metals are lovely, I don't deny it. And they tend to make a white stone appear larger, but my heart belongs to 18kt yellow (ever since the day my mom got a fat, heavy chunk of it for her wedding band...). I do find it slightly ironic that as much as I love yellow gold, I hardly ever get to make anything in it. So you can imagine how stoked I was when a customer approached me to make this ring:

in 18kt yellow. Oh the joy that burst out in the singleB studio! Yellow gold! Finally!

I loooove that ring in the 18k!! The contrast between stone and metal is awesome with yellow gold, and I think that is why I love it.
Gorgeous ( as always)

I have been following your blog since last summer when I started shopping for engagement rings with my now-hubby. We went with something else (obviously), but I just loved your designs so much that I kept reading.
About yellow v. white. I have always preferred white for a couple reasons. My favorite stone is a sapphire and I just prefer them set in white, indeed my engagement ring was a white gold band with sapphires. For me white gold is a more everyday accessible color (for me). My grandmother's wedding set was in white gold and I always thought it was different, so it just stuck.
But I do agree that yellow is more festive and have recently come around to mixing the two. That's just my opinion. Keep those designs coming!

@Jaime Thanks! It's always surprising to me how a thing like metal color can really change the feel of piece of jewelry. I also love seeing how different things look with varying surface treatments.

@Molly I totally get your reasoning about white. White is more wearable and bit less flashy for some reason. It can also make stones look larger. I guess it is more neutral, you don't have to consider the color as a design element like you do with yellow gold. Mixing! <3! I can't get enough of dual color jewelry. I despised it when I was younger, but then again I didn't like asparagus or goat cheese either, so maybe my tastes are evolving all around? :-)

I used to be a white gold wearer and didn't care for yellow gold much since I have more pink in my fair skin tone. I do like yellow gold for earrings since my hair is blonde, but my absolute favorite metal is ROSE GOLD. Absolutely gorgeous, so wearable, blends into my skin a bit which is what i like. I like jewelry that is simple and inconspicuous. I love rose gold with white and pale pink stones.

As the ecstatic owner of this very ring I will go on record for the world to read: IT IS GORGEOUS AND PERFECT! I feel like Cleopatra in this ring. I used to prefer white but am a total yellow convert.

@Jade Lol. That is awesome, and just what I like to hear. I have to say that when I finished your ring it pretty much sold me on having the same style for my own. :-)

I love that color so much, too! And the rose gold. I discovered you on etsy the other day, and am also from Eugene- so hello! I am totally in love with everything you do, and even though I'm not engaged (yet) my boyfriend of a million years knows who you are and that I love everything you do, especially the two typed metal ring in your logo. Swoooooon.

I'd imagine the love for white gold is because of how well it goes with anything. That's one concern I have for the yellow gold but I don't care... you have completely sold me on it! Your engagement ring is absolutely gorgeous... what do you plan on doing for the wedding band part?

Hi Katy! Thanks for commenting. As for a wedding band, my engagement ring is too wide to look good with a band, so I'm going to make a band that I will wear separately and switch them out. I sort of planned it that way. I sort of think a yellow gold ring doesn thane to match your clothes or other jewelry, it can be a stand alone sort of thing. :-)
